Ashiatsu Massage

Ashiatsu massage, a contemporary Western approach to ancient foot pressure techniques, consists of slow, deep, compressions and myofascial stretches applied with the therapist’s feet to deliver a uniquely deep massage.

With the receiver lying face down on a comfortable padded massage table, the therapist positions herself above and uses overhead bars as a support to safely modulate the amount of pressure used.

The receiver is unclothed and appropriately draped as with the full-body massage sessions. Minimal lubrication is used on the body.

Cupping Massage

Cupping is a technique that has been used for centuries as a therapeutic modality to treat many ailments. This specialized technique has evolved over the years with cups made from animal horns, bamboo, glass, ceramic, metal, plastic to what is commonly used today in the form of silicone, plastic, and modern glass fire cups.

Cups are placed over a specific area of skin and a vacuum is created manually within the cups to stimulate and increase blood flow to the area and stretch the skin. The cups may be left stationary in place for 2-3 minutes and also may be moved (with lubrication) in a gliding motion over an area.

The stimulation of blood flow to the area assists in decreasing muscle & joint pain. The improved freedom of movement enhances overall relaxation and well-being. Move better, feel better! Cupping can result in mild discomfort during treatment and may cause bruising marks in the treated area. Bruising generally resolves in a few days or up to a few weeks.

Cupping is not recommended for persons with acute infections, blood-related disorders, cancer, cardiac issues (including pacemakers), diabetes-related neuropathy, edema, kidney or liver disorders, medications that may cause bruising (including, but not limited to: blood thinners, NSAIDS, steroids, antibiotics, antidepressants, supplements such as fish oil, garlic, ginko, Vitamin E), pregnant clients.

Deep Tissue Massage is not just a regular massage with deeper pressure, but rather a treatment directed specifically to the individual muscle fibers.

Deep Tissue Massage employs techniques that “unstick” these muscle fibers from one another so that the flow of blood and lymphatic fluid is restored to the muscle.

Although Deep Tissue Massage is an intense treatment, it is done in such a way as to encourage the body to remain relaxed.

Experience the natural power and healing benefits of Himalayan Salt Stone Massage and reconnect to the earth, reconnect to yourself…

Over the span of 250 million years, the ancient seabed in the Himalayan region of the world was compressed under the pressure from the land masses that formed on top of them, the Himalayan Mountain Range. Protected for millions of years from pollutants and impurities, Himalayan sea salt crystals are the purest salts on Earth, and contain 84 essential minerals and nutrients, including magnesium, potassium and calcium.

These beautiful, multi-hued, pink salt crystals are available in many forms ranging from finely ground table salt to lamps to hand-carved stones. During a Himalayan Salt Stone Massage, the pink salt stones are gently heated, then massaged on the body allowing the minerals to be absorbed, maximizing these ancient salt stones’ many benefits.

A Himalayan Salt Stone massage encourages:

  • the release of tension & stress,
  • the gentle exfoliation & nourishment of the skin,
  • the generation of negative ions which are shown to help create a sense of peace & deep relaxation,
  • the balance of the nervous system to re-energize & re-center the body & mind
  • the neutralization of the energetic pollution in & around the body resulting from exposure computers, cell phones, TVs, microwaves.

Maternity Massage

Maternity massage is a gentle, full-body massage that soothes the areas under particular stress during and immediately following pregnancy.

During pregnancy, a woman’s body experiences many changes that affect her both physiologically and emotionally. Changes in hormonal levels, from conception through delivery, cause increased swelling, fatigue, and sometimes anxiety. As the baby grows, a shift in the mother’s center of gravity results in tension to her musculoskeletal system. Maternity Massage helps to alleviate and minimize many of these common discomforts.

Studies have also shown that by reducing stress hormone levels in the mother, Maternity Massage creates an environment in utero that is healthier for the developing baby.

Special positioning and pillow supports are used to ensure that massage is safe throughout the pregnancy.

Thai Massage

With origins in Ayurvedic medicine, yoga, and Buddhism, Thai Massage is a dynamic, interactive form of massage. It is sometimes compared to a meditative dance, in which the practitioner uses her hands, feet, arms and legs to guide the receiver into various relaxed stretches that often resemble yoga postures.

The techniques are performed slowly, mindfully, and with a gentle rocking movement that gently deepens the relaxation of both giver and receiver.

Preceding the movement into the stretches, the practitioner uses her hands and feet to apply rhythmic compressions that relax the muscles, open the joints, and allow the receiver to more easily move into the stretches.

Originated in India more than 2,500 years ago, Thai Massage was originally practiced by monks and nuns in Buddhist temples and many of its components were developed to facilitate sitting meditation and yoga practice.

Thai massage is based on the philosophy that all life is animated by an essential life force. In the Ayurvedic tradition this life force is called Prana, which is said to circulate along energy pathways called “sen.”

In keeping with the belief that Thai Massage is the “physical application of loving kindness,” therapists begin each session with a brief, silent meditation.

Thai Massage sessions take place on a comfortably padded floor mat. Both giver and receiver are barefoot and clothed in loosely fitted clothing. No oil or lubricant is used.

Chakra Energy Balncing

Chakra is the Sanskrit word for wheel and refers to specific cycling energy points in the body.

Chakra points correspond to bundles of nerves, major organs, and areas of our energetic body that affect our emotional and physical well-being. These points, visualized as spinning disks of energy, are what give our body life or our life force.

The seven major chakra points are located along the spine and are named (starting from the root of the spine to the top of the head) as the: root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye and crown chakras.

Chakras may present with too much energy or with depleted energy. Balanced chakras assist with restoring optimal function of our body’s systems whereas, unbalanced chakras, left unchecked, can lead to dis-ease in the body.

During the session, clients lie fully-clothed , face-up on the massage table. With a stated intention, the practitioner places their hands at the chakra points to help balance the energy, promote relaxation, and healing.

Reiki is a gentle bodywork technique for stress reduction, relaxation, and healing.

Reiki is based on the concept of a universal wisdom that comes from higher consciousness (“Rei”) and of a universal life force (“ki” also known as “chi” and “prana”) that animates the cosmos and all living things. It is an ancient form of healing rediscovered in the early 1900’s by Dr. Mikao Usui of Japan.

Our “ki”, or life force, determines our state of health. When our “ki” is low, we are more vulnerable to illness. When our “ki” is balanced, we are less likely to become ill, and our emotions, thoughts, and spirit are at their peak of positive expression.

In a Reiki session, the therapist gently rests her hands on the various energy centers of the receiver’s body. Through the therapist’s mindful meditation, the “ki” of the receiver is given a recharge and their relaxation is greatly enhanced.

A Reiki session is given with the client dressed and lying on a massage table.

Vibrational Sound Healing with Singing Bowls

Our true state of being is one of peacefulness, clarity, and love. As our cells vibrate at their optimal rate, our true state of being is enabled and can naturally ebb and flow through life’s many experiences.

Some of life’s experiences, however, can disrupt our optimal vibrational energy. Left unchecked, this energetic imbalance can manifest itself as stress, anxiety, and physical discomfort.

Using singing bowls, the healing power of vibrational sound subtly and gently realigns the vibrational energies of the chakra energy points. Chakra points correspond to bundles of nerves, major organs, and areas of our energetic body that affect our emotional and physical well-being. These points, visualized as spinning disks of energy, are what give our body life or our life force.

During the session, the client lies face up on the massage table. Bowls are placed around and/or on the client in alignment with the chakras. As the bowls are struck and surround the body in healing vibration, chakra energies rebalance and a sense of well-being is realized.

Stress, tension and pain are released, allowing for a re-connection to our natural state of being of optimal vibration which encourages the peaceful, clear, loving energy of our body, mind, and soul.
